Advanced Technology to Treat Cancer Patients in India

January 19, 2012: The world’s most advanced radiation therapy machine makes its way to Asia Pacific for the first time at BGS Global Cancer Institute in Bengaluru, India. The Global hospitals group has opened the BGS Global Cancer Institute on Wednesday for treating cancer patients with the most advanced radiation therapy machine TrueBeam STx.

The TrueBeam STx is a machine that can perform the most sophisticated radiation therapy and radio-surgery procedures accurately and with ultra-fine precision.  The machine choreographs some of the highly sophisticated systems for making it possible to treat the patients quickly at the time of monitoring and compensating for tumour motion. These sophisticated systems are imaging, beam delivery and motion management.

This machine enables quick and accurate targeting of the tumour in the challenging cancers’ treatment throughout the body, which includes tumour in the brain, pancreas and liver. The radiation oncologists at the BGS Global Hospital have also started using the machine for complex procedures with accuracy and precision as well as comfort of the patient.

During the opening ceremony of the BGS Global Cancer Institute, the Chairman and MD of the Global hospitals group said, “We have been continuously investing on the most advanced technologies. I am personally very delighted to bring to the people Asia Pacific’s first TrueBeam STx. Since, inception, we have been routinely performing medical and surgical procedures to treat a variety of cancers. The addition of TrueBeam STx will now help us in bringing the cancer patients requiring radiation therapy, the best radiation technology ever. We will soon be commissioning Gamma Camera and Brachy Therapy machines too, while PET CT is already commissioned.”

The Director of Surgical Sciences at Varian Medical Systems in Germany, makers of TrueBeam STx, Mr. David James said, “The high precision, accuracy and visibility of Trubeam STx provide the cancer professionals with the tools they need to eliminate even complex tumors. With this technology, they will have the ability to expand their practice by treating in new and innovative ways. They now can spare more surrounding critical structures and deliver more ablative treatments with leading-edge delivery of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT).”
