Warning Signs during Pregnancy

Some signs and symptoms are part of pregnancy, but some cause alarm. Some signs warrant immediate gynecologist attention. Advice by most gynecologists is to be better safe than sorry. Some warning signs and which can be potential pregnancy complications are:

Bleeding during any Trimester:

Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters. Bleeding is a severe sign, which mostly is accompanied by abdominal pain and cramps like menstrual cramps. Bleeding is serious and you need immediate medical attention. For example in first trimester bleeding can be due to ectopic pregnancy that is fertilized eggs are planted outside uterus. Heavy bleeding along with cramping is sign of miscarriage in the first and early second trimester. In third trimester if bleeding occurs then it can be indication of the placenta abruption and in that placenta separates from uterine lining.

Severe Nausea and Vomiting

Nausea and vomiting are normal signs of pregnancy. But if nausea and vomiting is severe and you can’t keep it down then its time to call for doctor. This is because you run risk of becoming dehydrated. Malnutrition and dehydration together can cause serious complications of premature labor or birth defects. You need to address the problem of vomiting and nausea so that pregnant mother and baby do get nutrition they need.

Baby’s activity level significantly decline

Drink something cold or eat something and see if baby is mobbing. Keep a count of the kicks also helps. You should know your baby’s movement and should establish a baseline. Generally ten or more kicks in every two hours is general rule. Anything less it means contact doctor immediately.

Early contractions in third trimester

Contractions can be true contractions or false contractions. Contraction which makes your baby come down is true contractions. False contractions have no rhythm that is unpredictable and their intensity doesn’t increase but in case of true contractions the intensity increases and also they are regular contractions with ten minutes apart or less. Contractions in third trimester is normal but if you are having it early then doctor has tools to stop you from going into labor pain.

Water breaks

You need to know if its water break or urine leakage due to excess pressure on the bladder. To know what it is you must go bathroom and empty your bladder by passing urine. If you still feel flood of water rushing down your legs then it is indeed water breaking and time to go to doctor immediately.

Preeclampsia

Abdominal pain, along with severe headache, swelling and visual disturbances all of these are persistent then this could signal towards preeclampsia which is a serious condition that can happen in pregnancy and can be potentially fatal. Typically occurs after 20th week of pregnancy. Its characterized by high blood pressure and excessive protein in urine. Good prenatal care helps. Keep check on blood pressure.
